Environmental Protection Guidelines (kA Wetland and Upland Buffer Areas The Marshan Meadows community includes areas of wetlands and upland buffer. Wetlands provide floodwater storage, stormwater filtering for water quality protection, and wildlife habitat. Wetlands also offer spatial buffering, open space, recreational and educational opportunities. Buffer strips of un- mowed, native vegetation adjacent to wetlands help filter runoff from maintained landscaped areas, reduce soil erosion, prevent excessive algae growth in wetlands, and protect wildlife habitat. The wet- lands and buffer areas in Marshan Meadows are protected by State and Federal Law. Please help protect wetlands and upland buffer areas by • refraining from mowing beyond edges of buffer as indicated by posted signs. • not dumping yard waste or other refuse in wetlands or buffer areas. • prohibiting motorized vehicles within the wetlands and posted buffer areas. • limiting foot travel within the posted buffer strips.
