ENVIRONMENTAL BOARD MEETING JULY 27, 2005 <br />Carlson mentioned the line -up would be at Target parking lot at 10:00 a.m., with <br />the parade beginning at 11:00 a.m. ending at USBank. Last year there were 75 <br />units in the parade, this year there were more. <br />Grochala indicated there was a website with all the information available. <br />Councilmember Carlson indicated there were activities after the parade at the <br />bank. <br />Asleson stated he would also contact Ray Herman the osprey person. <br />C. Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) <br />Asleson stated the group toured Peltier Lake, and he gave a talk in his kayak. <br />There were 4 -5 fledglings this year. They did what they could. The trees received <br />additional flashing mid - season, when it was found that the predators were able to <br />climb over it. There would be another Peltier Task Force this year. He mentioned <br />that there might be a need for a coon hunt. There were 31 nesting birds this year. <br />Initially there was a rookery at Rice Lake, but there was disturbance with the <br />nearby development activity. Half the birds went to Fridley Rookery, and the <br />other half to Peltier Lake rookery. The City had done everything possible to <br />protect the rookery at Peltier. Bor added if anyone wanted to donate money to the <br />project, it was tax deductible. <br />D. FireWise Project <br />Asleson stated that the project was active for the past 1.5 months, and the <br />residents of Pine Vista were happy with the results. He mentioned the logger had <br />great people skills, and was careful to speak with everyone. A couple of residents <br />chose not to participate in the program. <br />E. Recycling <br />Asleson noted the CRT Resolution passed, but the legislative bill had been put on <br />hold. It was mentioned that the recent edition of the Smithsonian had an article <br />addressing electronics that was insightful. <br />F. Member of Board <br />Chair O'Dea stated that Boardmember Dennis Smith was going to have to take on <br />more evening appointments for work. He had sent two E -Mails recently notifying <br />staff and boardmembers. Chair O'Dea indicated that she would contact him to <br />find out his intentions. <br />7.
