POLICY PLAN
h. Ensure that greenways serve all community residents through the
protection of view sheds and the provision of pedestrian trails within the
greenway corridor. Pedestrian trails will be located and designed within
the greenways in a manner that will not degrade the natural features of the
greenway.
Create an awareness of the value and importance of greenways through
community education, volunteerism in greenway maintenance, and citizen
stewardship activities.
Vegetation
1. Encourage the preservation of natural vegetation including plants of Oak
Savannas, prairies, woodlands, wetlands and aquatic vegetation to be a design
consideration for new subdivisions.
2. Examine the Lino Lakes landscaping and tree preservation ordinances to
determine the need for additional requirements.
3. Implement programs designed to protect trees through disease control and re-
forestation.
4. Require proper soil preparation for new development to insure deep rooting of
new landscaping and minimal irrigation.
5. Promote the use of native grasses, forbes, shrubs and trees in development site
restoration.
Discourage the use of herbicides, pesticides, and phosphorous fertilizers on
lawns to prevent runoff to wetland areas.
7. Implement strategies for the control of invasive /exotic plant species in
greenways, natural areas, and open spaces.
Soils
1. In areas of soils (hydric soils) that have limitations for development, soil testing
will be required to identify the soil correction measures necessary to insure safe
and quality construction.
2. Drain tile around building foundations and streets will be required in soil areas
characterized by moisture retention, high water tables, or perched water tables.
COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE LINO LAKES
24 DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK
