Nature's Refuge Development
Phase I Archaeological Survey and Architectural History Assessment
Page 13
5.0 RECOMMENDATIONS
During May of 2006, The 106 Group conducted a Phase I archaeological survey and
architectural history assessment for the Nature's Refuge Development project. The
proposed housing development project area encompassed 240 acres (97 hectares), of
which one acre (0.4 hectares) was tested for archaeological resources. Shovel testing was
performed within three identified areas of high archaeological potential. A total of 28
shovel tests were excavated to an average depth of 83 cmbs, but no archaeological
materials were recovered. Based on the lack of archaeological materials found within the
surveyed areas, no further archaeological work is recommended prior to construction of
the proposed project.
The 106 Group identified three buildings within the project area older than 45 years of
age. Three houses were constructed in the 1960s and one house is believed to be a circa -
1900 farmhouse, but has been significantly altered by modern modifications. The
properties have low potential to be eligible for listing on the NRHP.
•
•
