•
Jeff Smyser
From: RKEACBIRD @aol.com
Sent: Wednesday, November 22, 2006 4:23 PM
To: Jeff Smyser
Subject: EAW for Natures Refuge
Dear Jeff
In the EAW it states " Views for local residence will include new houses in places that presently have
no buildings. The appearance of new homes is a common change in any outer suburb in a
metropolitan area ".
It has been a recommendation and goal of the Environmental Board, endorsed by members of staff,
that the impacts of new developments on older established existing neighborhoods be greatly reduced
through creative and well planned use of buffering, wildlife corridors and /or open space so these
residents can still enjoy viewing nature or natural settings from their backyards instead of a garage or
shed.
The suggestion that the bird population contains various song birds such as the American Gold Finch
and Robin is extremely weak. I would be glad to send my "Life List" of birds I have viewed from my
deck to anyone that would like a copy. Some examples are: Great Blue and Green Herons, various
ducks including Wood Ducks and Teal, various Hawks and Falcons, Pheasants, Grouse, Wild Turkey,
Quail, Doves, Various Owls, Humming Birds, various Wood Peckers and the Northern Flicker (year
around), Chickadees, Red and White Breasted Nut Hatches, Blue Birds, Thrushes, Thrashers, Cat
Birds, Scarlet Tanager, Cardinals, Evening and Rose Breasted Grosbeaks, Indigo Buntings, Juncos,
various Sparrows, Orioles, Purple and House Finches and Red Polls.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact me.
Rod Kukonen
11/22/2006
