AGENDA ITEM 3D
STAFF ORIGINATOR: Linda Waite Smith
DATE: March 15, 1999 for March 22, 1999
TOPIC: Consider Adoption of Resolution No 99 -16 Appointing Y2K
Coordinator for City of Lino Lakes
VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5
BACKGROUND:
The City's umbrella insurance coverage through the League of Minnesota Cities
does not include coverage for problems resulting from the so- called Y2K bug in
computer systems. Limited coverage is available and expanded coverage may
later be available if the City engages in a comprehensive, documented planning
effort to identify possible problems, make corrections where possible and
develop contingency plans to deal with unforeseen problems.
City staff has been working for several months on just such a comprehensive
plan, including documentation of efforts. To qualify for additional insurance
coverage through LMCIT, the City needs to formally appoint a Y2K Coordinator
and forward a copy of the resolution to LMCIT. The attached resolution names
Police Sergeant Kent Stregge the Y2K Coordinator for the City. Sgt. Stregge
has attended training on Y2K planning and has been the lead staff person in
charge of the Police Department's Y2K activities. As Y2K Coordinator for the
City, he will coordinate the ongoing efforts of all City departments and ensure
that documentation meets LMCIT requirements.
OPTIONS:
1. Adopt Resolution 99 -16 appointing Police Sergeant Kent Stregge the Y2K
Coordinator for the City of Lino Lakes and direct staff to forward a copy of
the resolution to LMCIT.
2. Modify Resolution 99-16 to appoint another City employee as the City's Y2K
coordinator and direct staff to forward a copy of the resolution to LMCIT.
3. Do not adopt a resolution appointing a Y2K Coordinator for the City.
RECOMMENDATION:
1. Adopt Resolution 99 -16 appointing Police Sergeant Kent Stregge the Y2K
Coordinator for the City of Lino Lakes and direct staff to forward a copy of the
resolution to LMCIT.
