PROJECTING SIGN. A permanent sign affixed to an exterior wall or roof of a building and <br />which is perpendicular to the building wall. <br />PYLON SIGN. A permanent, free standing ground sign erected upon a post or posts, pole or <br />poles. <br />REAL ESTATE SIGN. A temporary sign advertising the sale or lease of property or buildings. <br />SANDWICH BOARD. A temporary sign constructed to form an "A" or a tent -like shape, placed <br />in front of a business to advertise its services or goods. <br />SIGN. Any writing, pictorial presentation, number, illustration or decoration, flag, banner or <br />other device, whether painted, posted, printed, affixed or constructed, including associated <br />brackets, braces, supports, wires and structures, that is used to announce, direct attention to, <br />identify, advertise or otherwise make anything known. SIGN shall not mean, and this chapter <br />shall not apply to, any state or local road signs displayed for the purpose of identifying road <br />construction or for the regulation of traffic associated therewith. <br />SIGNAREA. The entire area of a temporary or permanent sign within a single continuous <br />perimeter enclosing the extreme limits of the actual sign surface, but excluding any structural or <br />supporting elements such as uprights, aprons, poles, beams or standards. For the aurnose of this <br />chanter, maximum square footage of a sign shall be computed on the basis of one face of any <br />m}rlfi-double faced si <br />SIGN HEIGHT. Height shall be measured from grade to the uppermost points or level of sign <br />structure. <br />TEMPORARYSIGNS. A sign eete a for- a limited period of 4mewhich is designed or intended <br />to be displayed for a short period of time and is not permanently installed. This includes items <br />such as banners, pennants, flags of other than a political jurisdiction, beacons, sandwich signs, <br />balloons or other air or ,gas filled figures. <br />WALL SIGN. A permanent sign attached to or erected against the wall of a building or structure <br />with the exposed face to the sign in a plane approximately parallel to the face of the wall and <br />extending not more than 15 inches from the building wall face. <br />§ 1010.003 ADMINISTRATION AND ENFORCEMENT. <br />Permit required. No temporary or permanent sign shall be erected, altered, reconstructed, <br />�[MG11 moved in the city without first securing a permit from the city, unless this <br />chapter specifically states otherwise. The noncommercial speech content of the sign shall not be <br />reviewed or considered in determining whether to approve or deny a sign permit. The permit <br />owner shall be responsible for all of the requirements of this chapter, including the liability for <br />expense of removal and maintenance incurred by the city.
