AGENDA ITEM 5H
STAFF ORIGINATOR: John Powell, City Engineer
DATE: June 8, 1999
TOPIC: Resolution No 99-44, Accept Bids and Award Construction
Contract - 21'd Avenue Lift Station and Forcemain Improvements
VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority
INTRODUCTION;
Sealed bids were received and opened on Friday, May 21, 1999, for the 21st
Avenue Lift Station and Forcemain Project. This project includes the installation
of a sanitary sewer lift station and forcemain to convey sewage from the
Clearwater Creek Business Center area to the existing City system east of 1 -35E.
The improvements include an oversized steel casing pipe beneath I -35E which
the Metropolitan Council will also use as part of the Centerville Interceptor
project. City Council action is required to award a construction contract to the
lowest responsible bidder.
BACKGROUND:
On May 21, 1999, four sealed bids were received and opened with the following
results:
Company Bid Amount
Burschville Construction, Inc. $ 452,445.00
Barbarossa and Sons, Inc. $ 458,470.80
Lametti and Sons, Inca $ 493,410.00
S.R. Weidema, Inc. $ 535,810.50
Engineer's Estimate $ 479,324.50
The low bid is almost 6% below the Engineer's Estimate for this project. A copy
of the complete bid tabulation is attached. Although the low bidder did not
indicate on their bid that they had received the plan addendums for this project,
they have acknowledged that the information had been received. We have also
contacted three metropolitan area cities regarding similar projects Burschville
Construction has completed recently and we received positive references from
all three.
