AGENDA ITEM 5G
STAFF ORIGINATOR: Brian Wessel
DATE: 6/28/99
TOPIC: Signage Request from Owners of Fast Break Corner Market
VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5
BACKGROUND
Jeff and Kathy Hansmann are the owners of Fast Break Corner Market, which is
being constructed within the Town Center area The Hansmann's want to install
a twenty -five foot monument style sign on one comer of their budding site
Current city ordinances allow such a sign. However, projects in the Town Center
area are usually approved by the city council upon the recommendation of the
Planning and Zoning Committee with the condition that design issues are
reviewed by a staff/citizen group known as the Town Center Committee.
Applicants who disagree with recommendations of the Town Center Committee
can appeal to the city council.
The Hansmann's signage request was approved by the city council in August
1997, but has not been considered by the Town Center Committee as a whole.
It has been reviewed by staff and consultants who indicated they consider a sign
of twenty -five high to be too large and that a sign no larger than fourteen feet in
height would be appropriate.
The Hansmann's are requesting that city council approve their request without
referring it back to the Town Center Committee. Staff is recommending that the
request be referred to the Town Center Committee for review and
recommendation before the city council takes action.
OPTIONS:
1. Approve the request of Jeff and Kathy Hansmann to install a twenty -five
foot monument sign on the site of their Fast Break Comer Market.
2. Refer the request of to the Town Center Committee for review and
recommendation before taking action.
STAFF R,ECQMMENPATION:
Refer the request of to the Town Center Committee for review and
recommendation before taking action.
