STAFF ORIGINATOR
DATE
TOPIC
Agenda Item 3A
Linda Waite Smith
9/7/99
Hold Public Hearing to Adopt a Resolution Relating to the
Tax Rate Authorization for the Year 2000
VOTE REQUIRED Simple Majority
BACKGROUND
The State of Minnesota has enacted Chapter 243, Laws of Minnesota 1999, Article 6,
Section 2 requiring the city council to:
1. Hold a public hearing acknowledging that if the tax rate for year 2000 increases
over the 1999 tax rate, then the higher tax rate will be authorized, and
2. Following public input, if the council chooses to authorize an increase in the
property tax rate, it should adopt a resolution approving the tax rate increase, and
3. File a copy of the resolution with the Anoka County Auditor on or before October
20, 1999.
The resolution does not have to specify the amount of increase in the rate. It only
has to affirm that the tax rate may increase.
The numbers are not as of yet available from the County to determine whether or not
there will be a tax rate increase, but staff would like to be proactive and satisfy the
resolution requirement early.
OPTIONS
1. Adopt Resolution 99 -64
RECOMMENDATION
Option 1
