April 6, 1998 <br />TC IC: ` Resolution No. 98 -49, Accept Bids and Award Construction Con <br />Town Center Parkway, Phase 2 Street UtiNty Construction <br />INT <br />Sealed bids were received and opened on Friday April 3, 1998 for the Street and <br />Utility construction ►t Stet with Phase 2 of the Town Center Parkway project. Ci <br />Council lion is. required to award a construction contract to the lowest responsil <br />bidder. <br />BACKGRI <br />The City Council ordered the improvernent for the Street and Utility construction <br />associated with Phase 2 of the Town Center Parkway prole* at the February 23, 1998 <br />Council Meeting. On April 3, 1998, eight sealed bids were received and opened with <br />the following results: <br />Company Bid Amount <br />S. Ft. 1idema, Inc. $ 229,592.00 <br />W. B. Miller $ 239,041.95 <br />Ryan Contracting $ 245,057.10 <br />Northdale Construction $ 255,664.24 <br />Kadiec Excavating $ 266,742.53 <br />Kober Excavating $ 271,027.14 <br />Penn Contracting $ 286,908.00 <br />Engineer's Estimate $ 298,758.00 <br />The bid from Perkins.0 ac ing was rejected since it did not use the# td for <br />supptied In addena 2. The from Perkins was tabulated for the nor quantities ;and <br />had no effect on the outcome. The number of bids received and aggressive pricing Is <br />represents a competitive; bidding climate for the 1998 season. The bid by S. R. <br />Weidema, Inc. is approximately 23% below the engineer's estimate. The attached <br />letter from the City's consulting engineer, OSM, Inc., recommends the award of the <br />construction contract to S. R. Weidema Inc. <br />FIN! <br />The c onstruction cols for this project will be paid by tax increment financing. <br />
