Agenda Item 6B <br />Staff Originator: David Ahrens, Public Works Director /City Engineer <br />Date: April 23, 1998 <br />RE: <br />Resolution No. 98 -57, Accept Bids and Award Construction Contract <br />City of Lino Lakes, Minnesota <br />Lakes Addition, Street Reconstruction Storm Sewer and Water Main <br />Introduction <br />Sealed bids were received and opened on Tuesday, April 21, 998, for the Lakes Addition, Street <br />Reconstruction project. City Council action is required to award a construction contract to the lowest <br />responsible bidder. <br />Background <br />Council approved the plans and specifications for this project on March 23, 1998. On April 21, 1998, ' <br />four sealed bids were received and opened with the following results: <br />Company Bid Amount <br />Arnt Construction Co., Inc. $1,492,683.42 <br />Dresel Contracting Inc. $1,787,810.00 <br />Forest Lake Contracting, Inc. $1,972,976.20 <br />S.R. Weidema, Inc. $2,023,012.60 <br />SEH (Engineer's Estimate) $1,702,653.00 <br />The bids were tabulated and no errors were found. The errors did not change the order of the bid <br />results. The four bids submitted represent a competitive bidding environment that typically exists <br />at this time of year. The low bid by Arnt Construction was withdrawn due to an error. The second <br />low bid by Dresel Contracting Inc., is approximately 5 percent above the latest Engineer's Estimate. <br />The attached letter from the City's consulting engineer, Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. (SEH), <br />recommends the award of the construction contract to Dresel Contracting Inc. <br />Attachment <br />
