AGENDA ITEM 6C STAFF ORIGINATOR: David Ahrens, Director of Public Works/City Engineer DATE: April 23, 1998 TOPIC: Consideration of Resolution No. 98- 58 Accepting Bids and Awarding the Construction Contract for the Lilac Street Trunk Utility Improvements BACKGROUND: This project involves the extension of trunk sanitary sewer and watermain improvements to serve Behm's Century Farms 4th, 5th, and 6t Additions. The project has been separated into phases such that the trunk utility improvements can be more closely coordinated with the residential subdivision development. This first phase of the project is located on the north side of Lilac Street from Appaloosa Lane to Mustang Lane(Laurie Avenue); and on Mustang Lane(Laurie Avenue) from Lilac Street to 1100 feet north. On March 23, 1998 the City Council approved the plans and specifications and ordered the Advertisement for Bids. Thirteen contractors submitted bids for the project, the bids were opened at 10 :00 A.M. on April 22, 1998 at the City Hall. As shown by the enclosed bid tabulation, all of the bids which were received were below the Engineer's Estimate with S. R. Weidema having the lowest bid. The Engineer's Estimate reflected an expectation that the contract prices would rise due to the limited working space on Lilac Street and the construction time frame of about one month. S. R. Weidema is the lowest responsible bidder, the amount of their bid is $232,768.70. OPTIONS: 1. Approve Resolution No. 98 -58 Accepting the Bids and Awarding the Construction Contract for the Lilac Street Trunk Utility Improvements. 2. Receive the bids but delay the contract award pending further review by City staff. RECOMMENDATION: Option No. 1 - Approve Resolution No. 98 -58 Accepting Bids and Awarding the Construction Contract for the Lilac Street Trunk Utility Improvements.
