AGENDA ITEM 7A <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: David Ahrens, Public Works Director /City Engineer <br />DATE: May 27, 1997 <br />TOPIC: Resolution No. 98 - 70, Accept Bids and Award Construction <br />Contract -1998 Sealcoat Project <br />INTRODUCTION: <br />Sealed bids were received and opened on Tuesday, May 19, 1998, for the 1998 <br />Sealcoat Project. City Council action is required to award a construction contract <br />to the lowest responsible bidder. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The City Council ordered the improvement for 1998 Sealcoat Project at the April <br />27, 1998, Council Meeting. On May 19, 1998, two sealed bids were received <br />and opened with the following results: <br />Company Bid Amount <br />Allied Blacktop Company $55,912.50 <br />Asphalt Surface Technologies Corporation $61,312.50 <br />Engineer's estimate $75,000.00 <br />Sealcoat projects typically do not receive a high number of bids. Two years ago <br />one bid was submitted. Allied has submitted an excellent bid to the City for the <br />work. Allied Blacktop has performed sealcoat projects for the City in the past <br />and has completed the work satisfactorily. <br />FINANCING SUMMARY: <br />The 1998 budget include $58,850 for the 1998 Sealcoat Project. This is <br />approximately $3,000 more than the low bid by Allied Blacktop. <br />PROJECT SCHEDULE: <br />The project specifications state that the project must be complete (except for <br />final street sweeping) by August 15, 1998 and once work is started the <br />contractor must complete the project within 7 days. <br />
