Studenski, City Engineer <br />February 22, 2010 <br />Resolution No. 10 -14, Approving Plans and <br />Specifications and Authorizing Advertisement <br />for Bids, 2010 Overlay Project <br />Simple Majority <br />BACKGROUND: <br />In accordance with the Pavement Management Program, City staff has selected <br />streets to be overlaid in 2010. Candidate streets were selected based on <br />recommendations from the Pavement Management Report, Public Works input, <br />preparation for the 2011 projects and feasibility of locations. <br />Overlaying is a maintenance activity that includes patching of the existing street, <br />followed by the placement of a bituminous wearing course over the entire <br />surface. An estimated total construction cost of $247,600 is to be allocated for <br />this year's construction project. Due to pavement condition in Clearwater Creek, <br />a portion of the sealcoat budget has been shifted to the overlay budget to <br />complete the scheduled 2010 overlay project and make corrections in Clearwater <br />Creek. The engineering cost to be paid by the hour shall not exceed $24,800 for <br />bidding, construction and final out project. <br />City staff has prepared the plans and specifications for this work and is <br />requesting Council approval and authorization of advertisement for bids. <br />Attached is the 2010 Overlay Project Location Map. <br />The schedule for this project is as follows: <br />Open Bids <br />City Council Awards Contract <br />Construction Begins <br />March 31, 2010 <br />April 12, 2010 <br />June 2010 <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends the adoption of Resolution No. 10 -14, Approving Plans and <br />Specifications and Authorizing Advertisement for Bids, 2010 Overlay Project. <br />
