Studenski, City Engineer
February 22, 2010
Resolution No. 10 -15, Approving Plans and
Specifications and Authorizing Advertisement
for Bids, 2010 Sealcoat Projects
Simple Majority
BACKGROUND:
In accordance with the Pavement Management Program, City staff has selected
streets to be sealcoated in 2010. Candidate streets were selected based on
recommendations from the Pavement Management Report, Public Works input,
preparation for the 2011 projects and feasibility of locations.
Sealcoating places a thin layer of oil and rock on the street to enhance the
surface and prolong the useful life of the street. This year, approximately 5.8
miles of streets will be sealcoated at an estimated total construction cost of
$139,000. Due to pavement condition in Clearwater Creek, a portion of the
sealcoat budget has been shifted to the overlay budget to complete the
scheduled 2010 overlay project and make corrections in Clearwater Creek. This
will allow Clearwater Creek to be sealcoated in 2011. The engineering cost to be
paid by the hour shall not exceed $9,700 for bidding, construction and final out
project.
City staff has prepared the plans and specifications for this work and is
requesting Council approval and authorization of advertisement for bids.
Attached is the 2010 Sealcoat Project Location Maps.
The schedule for this project is as follows:
Open Bids March 31, 2010
City Council Awards Contract April 12, 2010
Construction Begins June 2010
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the adoption of Resolution No. 10 -15, Approving Plans and
Specifications and Authorizing Advertisement for Bids, 2010 Sealcoat Project.
