Studenski, City Engineer <br />COUNCIL MEETING DATE: March 10, 2008 <br />TOPIC: Resolution No. 08 -29, Approving Plans and Specifications and <br />Authorizing Advertisement for Bids, 2008 Overlay Project <br />Vote Required: Simple Majority <br />BACKGROUND: <br />In accordance with the Pavement Management Program, City staff has selected <br />streets to be overlaid in 2008. Candidate streets were selected based on <br />recommendations from the Pavement Management Report, Public Works input, <br />and feasibility of locations. Overlaying is a maintenance activity that includes <br />patching of the existing street, followed by the placement of a bituminous wearing <br />course over the entire surface. An estimated total construction cost of <br />$188,311.00 is to be allocated for this year's construction project. <br />City staff has prepared the plans and specifications for this work and is <br />requesting Council approval to advertise for bids. Attached is the 2008 Overlay <br />Project Location Map. <br />The schedule for this project is as follows: <br />Open Bids <br />City Council Awards Contract <br />Construction Begins <br />April 17, 2008 <br />April 28, 2008 <br />Summer 2008 <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends the adoption of Resolution No. 08 -29, Approving Plans and <br />Specifications and Authorizing Advertisement for Bids, 2008 Overlay Project. <br />
