Consider Resolution No. 11 -07, Authorizing Preparation of Plans & Specifications, Birch St./Ware Road. Intersection Improvement Project ACTION REQUIRED: 3/5 BACKGROUND The City has previously received requests from residents to consider the signalization of the Birch StreetNVare Road intersection and the Lake Drive /Main Street intersection. Both intersections are experiencing growing congestion and safety problems. In 2010 the City Council initiated a process to improve both intersections by the installation of traffic signals and other lane improvements. Local funding for the project is proposed to be provided by the issuance of General Obligation Bonds payable from the collection of property taxes. In November of 2010 City residents approved the ballot question supporting these improvements. Anoka County has included the proposed projects in their 5 year CIP for construction in 2012. We are anticipating that the project design would be completed in 2011. Right -of -Way acquisition would commence in 2011 and be completed in time for a spring 2012 bid letting. At this time staff is requesting authorization to proceed with the preparation of plans and specification for the proposed improvements. TKDA, the City's engineer, has submitted proposals for the design of both intersections in the amount of $99,700 for the Lake /Main intersection and $88,800 for the Birch/Ware Intersection. Both projects will be billed on an hourly rate basis. RECOMMENDATION Adopt Resolution No. 11 -06 and No. 11 -07. ATTACHMENTS 1. Resolution No. 11 -06 • 2. Lake /Main Proposal 3.
