•
•
AGENDA ITEM NO. 5B
STAFF ORIGINATOR: Rick DeGardner, Public Services Director
COUNCIL MEETING DATE: February 14, 2011
TOPIC: Consideration of Resolution No. 11 -21, Approving
2011 Park Board Goals
VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority
BACKGROUND:
The Park Board met on February 7th to discuss potential projects for 2011. After
extensive discussion, the Park Board unanimously recommended that $25,000 of
Dedicated Park Funds be designated for the installation of an open air shelter at
Sunrise Park.
Sunrise Park has two existing shelters that were installed 25+ years ago. This past
summer, Park Shelter #2 was damaged during a storm resulting in several roof panels
needing replacement. Since this type of shelter is no longer in production, new panels
would have to be fabricated, resulting in substantial expense. In addition, the support
posts and concrete pad are in poor condition. Park Shelter #1 has also deteriorated
over the years.
Staff is recommending that both existing shelters be removed and the new shelter be
installed near the main parking lot, where Park Shelter #1 is currently situated. Park
maintenance staff can undertake the demolition /removal of both shelters. The City will
also receive approximately $6,000 from the LMCIT due to the roof damage that
occurred to Park Shelter #2 this past summer.
Our intent is to have the new park shelter ready for use by the beginning of our summer
playground program that commences mid -June.
OPTIONS:
1. Approve Resolution 11 -21 and authorize staff to implement the 2011 Park
Board Goals.
2. Return to staff for further review.
• RECOMMENDATION:
Option 1.
