Studenski, City Engineer <br />COUNCIL MEETING DATE: February 28, 2011 <br />TOPIC: Resolution No. 11 -23, Approving Plans and <br />Specifications and Authorizing Advertisement <br />for Bids, 2011 Sealcoat Projects <br />Vote Required: Simple Majority <br />BACKGROUND: <br />In accordance with the Pavement Management Program, City staff has selected <br />streets to be sealcoated in 2011. Candidate streets were selected based on <br />recommendations from the Pavement Management Report, Public Works input, <br />preparation for the 2011 projects and feasibility of locations. <br />Sealcoating places a thin layer of oil and rock on the street to enhance the <br />surface and prolong the useful life of the street. This year, approximately 4.7 <br />miles of streets will be sealcoated at an estimated total construction cost of <br />$108,550. The engineering cost to be paid by the hour shall not exceed $9,850 <br />for bidding, construction inspection and final out project. <br />City staff has prepared the plans and specifications for this work and is <br />requesting Council approval and authorization of advertisement for bids. <br />Attached is the 2011 Sealcoat Project Location Map. <br />The schedule for this project is as follows: <br />Open Bids March 30, 2011 <br />City Council Awards Contract April 11, 2011 <br />Construction Begins June, 2011 <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends the adoption of Resolution No. 11 -23, Approving Plans and <br />Specifications and Authorizing Advertisement for Bids, 2011 Sealcoat Project. <br />
