• <br />• <br />• <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: <br />MEETING DATE: <br />TOPIC: <br />VOTE REQUIRED: <br />BACKGROUND: <br />AGENDA ITEM 1D <br />Julie Bartell, City Clerk <br />August 8, 2011 <br />Consider Resolution No. 11 -80, Authorizing <br />issuance of a special event permit and 1 -4 day <br />temporary on sale liquor license for the American <br />Legion Post 566 Blue Heron Days Family Picnic <br />Simple Majority (3/5 Vote Required) <br />American Legion Post 566 has scheduled a special event for Friday, Saturday <br />and Sunday, August 19, 20 and 21, during the weekend of the Blue Heron Days <br />festival. The event plans include a Centennial all -class reunion, a pig roast, corn <br />feed, horseshoe tournament, and music. The hours for the various elements of <br />the event vary but music is limited to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and all events will be <br />done by Sunday afternoon. <br />The Legion would like to fence off a portion of their property on the south and <br />east side of their building to be used for picnic festivities for these events only. <br />The Minnesota Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division requires a 1 to 4 Day <br />Temporary On -Sale Liquor License to allow the consumption of alcohol in this <br />outdoor area. The applicant is required to submit their request to the city <br />requesting local approval before the application is submitted to the state for final <br />consideration. <br />The Legion has submitted to the City an application for both a special event <br />permit and temporary liquor license. The applications have been reviewed by <br />staff, including the police and fire departments, and the applicant has been <br />provided with a list of safety conditions. The applicant has agreed to comply with <br />the conditions and to address any other safety considerations that may arise. <br />Background information on the applicant and the American Legion Post officers <br />is on file at City Hall. <br />
