• AGENDA ITEM 6A
•
STAFF ORIGINATOR: Marty Asleson
CITY COUNCIL
MEETING DATE: February 14, 2005
TOPIC: Consideration of Resolution No. 05 -10, Approving
2005 Environmental Board Goals
VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5
BACKGROUND:
The Environmental Board annually sets goals as a part of their work program.
The Board is requesting the City Council acceptance of their goals for 2005. The
Board at their December meeting adopted the following goals:
• Promote environmental stewardship with the citizens of Lino Lakes by:
A. Communicating environmental initiatives in the city using various means
of communication, i.e., City WebPages, newsletter, homeowners
association meetings, the information kiosk, and northern suburb Pioneer
Press coverage.
B. Pursuing the possibility of Lino Lakes becoming certified as a Community
Wildlife Habitat through the National Wildlife Federation.
• Participate in Blue Heron Days, providing educational material to the public.
• Participate in Earth Day activities in the community, promoting environmental
awareness and collaboration with other environmental focused organizations.
• Continue to participate on the City AUAR Advisory Board (Alternative Urban
Areawide Review), focusing on the values Lino Lakes citizens have
expressed in the vision for our city and the unique ecological aspects of our
wetlands, lakes and streams and subsurface waters.
• Perform an evaluation of past Environmental Board recommendations for
development projects. Review projects by site visits, discussion with city
staff, and landowners, neighbors, on the outcomes of the Boards
recommendations.
• Continue to collate information received from other municipality
environmental Boards, identifying opportunities to collaborate and learn from
each other.
