Studenski, City Engineer <br />COUNCIL MEETING DATE: March 13, 2006 <br />TOPIC: Resolution No. 06 - 44, Approving Plans and Specifications and <br />Authorizing Advertisement for Bids, 2006 Sealcoat Project <br />Vote Required: Simple Majority <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Each year the City maintains its streets by sealcoating. Sealcoating places a thin <br />layer of oil and rock on the street to enhance the surface and prolong the useful <br />life of the street. Candidate streets were selected based on recommendations <br />from the Pavement Management Report, Public Works input, and feasibility of <br />locations. This year, approximately 6 miles of streets will be sealcoated at an <br />estimated total project cost of $130,000. <br />City staff has prepared the plans and specifications for this work and is <br />requesting Council approval to advertise for bids. <br />The schedule for this project is as follows: <br />Open Bids April 12, 2006 <br />City Council Awards Contract April 24, 2006 <br />Construction Begins June, 2006 <br />OPTIONS: <br />1. Return to staff for further review. <br />2. Adopt Resolution Number 06 - 44, approving the plans and specifications and <br />authorizing advertisement for bids for the 2006 Sealcoat project. <br />3. Not adopt Resolution Number 06 - 44. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Option No. 2 - Staff recommends that Resolution Number 06 - 44 be adopted. <br />
