• <br />AGENDA ITEM 1H <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Michael Grochala <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />MEETING DATE: August 14, 2006 <br />TOPIC: <br />Consideration of Resolution No. 06 -133, <br />Supporting Local Road Improvement Funding <br />Application - Lake Drive (CSAH 23)/35W <br />Interchange <br />ACTION REQUIRED: Simple Majority <br />BACKGROUND <br />In 2006 the State Legislature appropriated $16 million into the Local Road Improvement <br />Program, including approximately $7.5 million in the Routes of Regional Significance Account. <br />The Routes of Regional Significance Account is used as a grant for expenditures as specified to <br />cities, towns, and counties to assist in paying the cost of constructing or reconstructing city <br />streets, county highways, or town roads with statewide or regional significance that have not <br />been fully funded through other state, federal, or local funding sources. <br />Selection of projects in this account is based upon the consideration of: <br />1. the availability of other state, federal, or local funds; <br />2. the regional significance of the route; <br />3. effectiveness of the proposed project in eliminating a transportation system <br />deficiency; <br />4. the number of person who will be positively impacted by the project; <br />5. the project's contribution to other local, regional, or state economic development or <br />redevelopment efforts; and <br />6. the ability of the local unit of government to adequately provide for the safe operation <br />and maintenance of the facility upon project completion. <br />The maximum award amount is $500,000. Based on the eligibility requirements staff believes <br />the City can submit a strong application for the Lake Drive project. Applications are due by <br />September 1, 2006 with funding decisions made in late fall. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff is recommending approval of Resolution No. 06 -133 <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />1.
