CITY COUNCIL <br />• AGENDA ITEM 6F (i) <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: <br />MEETING DATE: <br />TOPIC: <br />VOTE REQUIRED <br />INTRODUCTION <br />Michael Grochala <br />July 23, 2012 <br />Consideration of Resolution No. 12 -70 Approving <br />Plans & Specifications and Authorizing <br />Advertisement for Bids, Lake/Main & Birch/Ware <br />Intersection Improvements <br />Simple Majority <br />Staff is requesting council action to approve the plans and authorize advertisement for bids for <br />the intersection improvements. The improvements include installation of traffic signals, road <br />widening, median placement, storm sewer installation and roadway resurfacing. The project <br />schedule is as follows: <br />July 23, 2012 <br />August 30, 2012 <br />• September 10, 2012 <br />October 1, 2012 <br />June, 2013 <br />BACKGROUND <br />Approve Plans & Authorize Advertisement for Bids <br />Open Bids <br />Consider Award of Contract <br />Start Construction <br />Construction Complete <br />The City Council authorized the final design preparation of plans and specifications for the Lake <br />Drive /Main Street and Birch Street/Ware Road Intersection improvements on January 21, 2011 <br />(Resolution No. 11 -06 and 11 -07). The final design has been completed, reviewed and approved <br />by the City, Anoka County and the Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT). <br />Funding for the project is being provided by Anoka County, and the City of Lino Lakes. The <br />City's share of the project cost is approximately $1.8 million. The City funding will be provided <br />primarily through the issuance of general obligation bonds authorized by a voter approved <br />referendum in 2010. Water main installed under the new street segment on Sioux Lane will be <br />funded by the City's trunk utility fund. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff is recommending adoption of Resolution No. 12 -70 approving plans and specifications and <br />authorizing advertisement for bids. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />1.
