• <br />AGENDA ITEM 6B <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Marty Asleson <br />MEETING DATE: August 13, 2012 <br />TOPIC: Consideration of Resolution No. 12 -79 Accepting 2012 Anoka <br />County Recycling Enhancement Grant <br />VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority (3/5) <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The Lino Lakes Environmental Board is responsible for overseeing the Solid Waste and <br />Recycling Program for the City of Lino Lakes. Each year the Board establishes goals for the <br />upcoming year. The Board established a new recycling goal for 2012 to investigate ways to <br />expand recycling efforts in the City with particular attention to commercial, industrial, and <br />public /semi - public entities. <br />BACKGROUND <br />In June of 2012 Anoka County offered Enhancement recycling grants. The Lino Lakes <br />Environmental Board chose to apply for the enhancement grant, and if approved would be <br />contingent upon city council approval. Lino Lakes Enhancement Grant was approved by the <br />County on July 25 for the amount of $25,654. The grant was written to enhance public <br />awareness of, and to increase the opportunity for, recycling in Lino Lakes. The grant is titled <br />"Lino Lakes Recycles at Home, at Work, and on the Go ". <br />The grant Includes: <br />• New recycling containers for indoor public facilities. <br />• A startup monthly Recycle Day. <br />• Public Education in the form of flyers and postcards to residents concerning increased <br />recycling opportunities. The flyer will promote the idea of recycling everywhere. <br />• Additional money to pay staff to start-up monthly recycling and monitoring until the <br />end of the year. <br />• Dollars to implement community fundraising through the use of grant funded can cages. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends approval of Resolution No. 12 -79, accepting the 2012 Anoka County <br />Recycling Enhancement Grant. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />1. 2012 Recycling Enhancement Grant <br />2.
