AGENDA ITEM 4 A_
STAFF ORIGNINATOR: Dave Pecchia
MEETING DATE: February 25, 2008
TOPIC: Police Department Administrative Staffing
VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority
BACKGROUND
At the January 7, 2008 and February 4, 2008 Council Work Sessions members of the Lino
Lakes Police Department provided a report outlining changes proposed within the police
department to provide a Community Relations Coordinator (a part time 3/4 time position) to
enhance our service to the community utilizing Volunteers, Community Service Officers and a
Lead Records Technician position. This proposal was designed to result in a cost savings in
excess of $10,000 for the 2008 adopted Police department budget.
The attached job description has been updated and the pay range has been established to reflect
the value of this position to the police department and the community we serve. Based on the
education, knowledge, skills and abilities of the coordinator the recommended starting wage is
53,913. The proposed salary is 75% of Step 5 which reflects the estimated starting salary of
$72,000 used in the presentation at the February 4, 2008 council work session.
The Community Service Officer Job Description and salary have been previously established
end therefore no action is needed on these items.
The Lead Records Technician position will be governed by the AFSCME bargaining unit, and
the salary will not exceed the proposed amount.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff is recommending the council approve the proposed job description pay range, starting
salary and staffing changes.
ATTACHMENTS
Job Description: Community Relations Coordinator
Pay Range
