Potential `99 -'00 Goals for the Lino Lakes Environmental Board
Submitted by Scott Lanyon
July 28, 1999
1.) Hold an open house for all developers interested in building in Lino Lakes.
Purpose would be to:
• Demonstrate to developers that we are approachable.
• Give developers insights about what our priorities are.
• Give us the opportunity to let developers know what we expect of them.
• Give developers an opportunity to voice their concerns.
2) Develop and adopt a form for the board to use in evaluating Development Projects.
Purpose would be to:
• Produce a form that city staff can distribute to all developers that will indicate our
priorities and what we expect of developers.
• Streamline our evaluation of projects.
• Provide a format for clear communication with staff and Council
3) Finalize a set of standard recommendations regarding lighting, native plantings, on-
sight infiltration, tree replacement, tilling of soil, buffers, conservation of ecotones,
minimization of impervious surfaces... Purpose would be to:
• Append these to the evaluation form such that we needn't reinvent these for each
project.
• Standardizing the language would make developers aware that we are treating
everyone the same.
4) Using the report from our consultants, identify the set of ordinances we believe need to
be changed and how. Make a formal recommendation to council that these ordinances be
changed. Perhaps we should suggest that funds be allocated to ensure that these be
rewritten in a timely fashion.
5) Identify tracts of land that need to be preserved in order to retain vital wildlife
corridors.
6) Identify a project (ideally one that is nearly guaranteed to succeed) that requires citizen
involvement. Purpose would be to:
• Increase citizen ownership of an environmental vision for the city through personal
involvement. •
• Provide an example.of how• doing things in an environmentally aware. manner can be
less expensive and more effective than many of our standard practices.
