if a
•sustainable resource quality is to be achieved.
Interrelationship of
Greenways with Parks
and Trails
The conceptual idea of the greenway system as presented here is a natural
outgrowth of the existing park and trail system plan for the city. The
existing
plan makes numerous references to the development of a greenway system
for its natural values as well as providing the conduit for a city - wide
linear trail
corridor system. In many respects, the existing park and trail plan was
part of
the community visioning process that manifested itself in the 20/20
Vision
Plan.
The plan remains the basic
underpinning for the park and trail
system and should still be used as the
basis for planning future parks and trails.
Integrating the Greenway System with the Park and Trail
System Plan
The Comprehensive Park and Trail Plan and Development Guide for Lino
4 Lakes
defines the overall plan for the city's parks and trails and establishes
the
parameters for its implementation. The plan remains the basic
underpinning
for the park and trail system and should still be used as the basis for
planning
future parks and trails
As part of the planning process for this manual, the city -wide park and
trail
system plan was overlaid on the greenway system map shown in figure 4.2.
This combination illustrates how the linear trail corridors and
individual park
locations can be effectively intertwined with the natural areas contained
within the greenway system. Figure 4.4 illustrates this concept.
As shown on the figure, the actual and conceptual location of existing
and
proposed trails are identified. The trails are broken down into two
types, park
trails and connector trails. Park trails refer to trails that are located
in their own
easement, in a greenway corridor outside of a road right -of -way, or in a
•city/
regional park. Connector trails refer to trails that are typically
17ap ar &_Pszpsanov_Boap8_ Xcn_o6_ Alvo_ Awcsa
11
