•
•
AGENDA ITEM 1B
STAFF ORIGNINATOR: Jean Viger, Deputy Clerk
MEETING DATE: August 27, 2007
TOPIC: Resolution 07 -121, Pledging Support for
Improving the Physical Accessibility to the
Polling Place in Precinct #2, Centennial Fire
Station #2
VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority (3/5 Vote)
BACKGROUND:
The Help America Vote Act (HAVA) provides funds for improving the accessibility and
quality of polling places. The Office of the Secretary State has received federal grant
money (Election Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities Grant Program) and will
award up to $263,000.00 in grants to city, township and county governments for polling
place accessibility improvement projects. Of the $263,000., $242,000. has been
designated for physical, accessibility improvements to the polling places, such as
automatic door openers, disability parking spaces, ramps, etc.
Currently the Centennial Fire Station #2, Precinct No. 2, does not have automatic door
openers. The Office of the Secretary of State recommends installing automatic door as it
has been determined that many people with disabilities and older individuals may have
difficulty opening the heavy doors leading into polling places.
This resolution pledging support is required to accompany the grant application.
OPTIONS:
1. Approve Resolution No. 07- 121
2. Deny Resolution No. 07- 121
RECOMMENDATION:
Option 1
