CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 1F <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Lisa Hogstad-Osterhues, Deputy City Clerk <br />MEETING DATE: June 23, 2014 <br />TOPIC Consider Resolution No. 14-59, Approving a <br />Special Event and Parade Permit for Ethan's Reason 5K <br />Run and 1 Mile Walk <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />Ethan's Reason is a 5k run and 1 mile walk scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2014 from <br />7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 100% of the proceeds will go to the non-profit organization, Ethan's <br />Reason, which will be used to help to forward the mission of advancing research, education, and <br />public awareness of Batten Disease and rare diseases and to support individuals and families who <br />have been affected by Batten Disease and rare diseases. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The event is the 2014 5K Run and 1 mile walk/roll staring at Centennial Middle School and <br />running along the routes indicated on the attached map. There will be bathrooms available at the <br />school as well as basic first aid. There will be garbage cans placed midway through the course <br />where water will be provided. <br />A special event application requesting city permission to conduct this activity has been submitted <br />to the city. <br />A Certificate of Liability and Insurance coverage has been submitted to cover this event. <br />It is anticipates there will be approximately 150 participants; the proposed route for the parade <br />would be starting at Centennial Middle School, to Elm Street, to Cinnamon Teal Court, to Ivy <br />Ridge Lane, to Rice Lake Lane, back to Elm Street to the middle school property where the <br />staging area will be located. <br />The Police Department have reviewed the applications and have signed off on the permit with <br />the understanding that the applicants will continue to follow their instructions on safety. The <br />applicant must also have in place all necessary permissions for use of property involved in the <br />event. <br />
