C I T YO F
RNQ[1 KES
April 10, 2014
Connie Sutherland, Chair
Lino Lakes Charter Commission
Re: Additional Attorney Expenses
Dear Ms. Sutherland:
At the April 7th Council work session, you appeared on behalf of the Charter Commission to
request an additional $600 expenditure for Attorney Karen Marty to review the City Council's
two proposed charter amendments (Ordinance Nos. 03-14 and 04-14).
In response to your question regarding the legality of using City funds for this purpose, the City
Attorney has indicated that attorney expenses to assist the Charter Commission in its review of
the amendments is an appropriate expenditure under Minn. State Statute 410.06, which is
attached.
Regarding the request for additional funds, the Council agreed that they will authorize a 2014
budget increase for the Charter Commission for up to $600 if the Commission exceeds its current
$1,500 allocation.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL:
Sincerely,
Jeff Karlson
City Administration
