1 <br />COUNCIL MEETING JANUARY 25, 1988 <br />subscribers in Lino Lakes but the Pines has total <br />circulation through the Shopper which is mailed to every <br />home in Lino Lakes. All legal notices would also be <br />published in the shopper at no extra charge although the <br />Shopper cannot be considered as a legal newspaper. <br />Mr. Eugene Johnson appeared before the Council representing <br />Press Publication, publisher of the Quad Press. He <br />explained that six years ago Press Publication committed <br />themselves to printing a paper for the four city area of <br />Lino Lakes, Centerville, Circle Pines, Lexington and also a <br />portion of Blaine. Four years ago the Quad was appointed the <br />legal newspaper for Lino Lakes. The Quad reaches 96% of the <br />homes in this area. There are some paid subscribers <br />however, most of the papers are delivered free. <br />Mr. Reinert asked how the legal rates in the Quad compare to <br />other newspapers. Mr. Johnson explained rates do not vary <br />much, however the Quad may be somewhat higher to make the <br />paper available to everyone free and because the Quad <br />prefers not to use the very small type. <br />Mayor Benson thanked all of the representatives for <br />attending this evening. He also reminded the Council of the <br />committment made six years ago to provide timely news to all <br />Lino Lakes residents and keep the community informed. <br />Mr. Schumacher explained to the Council that he had talked <br />to all the newspapers who expressed interest in Lino Lakes. <br />He noted that the Blaine - Spring Lake Park Life has a limited <br />staff and was interested in only publishing legal notices. <br />Mr. Bisel explained that circulation is an important factor <br />but was more concerned about news coverage about this City. <br />Mr. Bisel moved based on total coverage to appoint Press <br />Publications as legal newspaper for another year. Mr. <br />Bohjanen seconded the motion. <br />Mr. Marier felt that there was not total coverage by the <br />Quad Press in Lino Lakes and noted several pieces of paper <br />left in ditches. He said there is a paper that has had a <br />representative at every meeting and have a mailing that <br />should be taken into consideration. He also noted this <br />local paper is very responsive to the needs of this City. <br />Mr. Reinert agreed but felt getting the news to as many <br />people as possible was paramount at this time and the Quad <br />Press does do this.
