Environmental
To: Michael Grochala
From: Marty Asleson
Date: January 23, 2004
Re: Environmental Board Recommendations/January 21, 2004
The Environmental Board made the following recommendations at the January 21,
2004 Environmental Board meeting:
• Landscaping:
• All tree - planting areas should have planting holes prepared as per illustration.
All planting areas where soil compaction is necessary because of buildings and
pavement should use CU structural soils or some other method to allow for
suitable root growth). It would be better to plant smaller trees in CU soils than
larger trees in compacted soils.
• Species selection should combine appropriate native/indigenous species that
complement the native landscape and architectural features. Suggest some
flexibility in street tree planting specifications in order to add .possible traffic
calming features (species and spacing) to the landscape. All trees should be
zone 4 species. Desirable species for Legacy:
• Oaks ( Red, Northern pin, White, Burr and Swamp white)
