AGENDA ITEM 7E
STAFF ORIGINATOR: James E. Studenski, City Engineer
COUNCIL MEETING DATE: March 22, 2004
TOPIC: Resolution No. 04 - 39, Approving Plans and Specifications and
Authorizing Advertisement for Bids, 2004 Sealcoat Project
Vote Required: Simple Majority
BACKGROUND:
Each year the City maintains its streets by sealcoating. Sealcoating places a
thin layer of oil and rock on the street to enhance the surface. Candidate streets
include new streets that received the wear course 2 - 3 years ago and all other
streets are done on a 5 - 7 year cycle. This year, approximately 5 miles of streets
will be sealcoated at an estimated total project cost of $77,000. The 2004
budget includes $61,000 for sealcoating. The difference between the annual
City budget amount and the total bid amount would be funded from the City's
Sealcoat fund as this reflects the cost of the first time sealing of new roadways.
City staff has prepared the plans and specifications for this work and are
requesting Council approval to advertise for bids.
OPTIONS:
1. Return to staff for further review.
2. Adopt Resolution Number 04 - 39, approving the plans and specifications and
authorizing advertisement for bids for the 2004 Sealcoat project.
3. Not adopt Resolution Number 04 - 39
RECOMMENDATION:
Option No. 2 - Staff recommends that Resolution Number 04 - 39 be adopted.
