COUNCIL WORK SESSION <br />JUNE 11, 1990 <br />Mayor Bisel called a work session of the Lino Lakes City <br />Council to order at 6:00 P.M., June 11, 1990. Council <br />Members present: Neal, Bohjanen. Council Member Kuether <br />arrived at 6:25 P.M. City Planner, John Miller; Engineer's, <br />Darrell Schneider and Dan Boxrud; Administrator, Randy <br />Schumacher and Clerk- Treasurer Marilyn Anderson were also <br />present. <br />INSIDE SPORTS PRESENTATION <br />Mr. Donald Monson appeared before the Council to represent <br />Inside Sports and introduced several other persons involved <br />with this proposed development including Fred Dresser, <br />Patrick Cullen, Dennis McEvoy, Hugh Heineke, Robert Baumeier <br />and Jerald Freeman. <br />Mr. Dresser outlined the mission of the project, the design <br />and the benefits to the City. He also gave a brief outline <br />regarding how he expected the project to be financed and how <br />he expected that it would be self - supporting. Mr. Dresser <br />gave each Council Member a booklet which introduces Inside <br />Sports, Inc. <br />Mr. Dresser explained that the reason Inside Sports, Inc. has <br />decided to locate in Lino Lakes is that this area is a part <br />of a very large softball area. He also noted that the <br />community is growing and persons associated with this <br />development have looked for an area that has good schools, <br />quality homes and parks. <br />Mr. Dresser outlined the design of the facility. He <br />explained that Minnesota Sports Federation will operate ths <br />facility and will be locating its headquarters the same area. <br />Mr. Dresser explained that Inside Sports, Inc. will be able <br />to meet its financial obligations. A market study has been <br />completed to support this statement. <br />Mr. Dresser said that Inside Sports, Inc. is proposing a <br />partnership between Inside Sports, Inc. and the City of Lino <br />Lakes. The City would purchase the land at a cost of <br />$740,000.00 and through the Economic Development Authority <br />(EDA) lease the land to Inside Sports, Inc. Inside Sports, <br />Inc. would construct the facility and it would be operated by <br />Minnesota Sports Federation. The City would have usage of <br />the facility for community events. It is believed that the <br />economic impact on the City would be immense in terms of <br />attracting new businesses, national recognition and community <br />service. Mr. Dresser asked that the Council act quickly on <br />the matter so that construction can begin in September and <br />games can begin in February, 1991. <br />Council Member Bohjanen asked how this facility will fit into <br />the Olympic facilities in the City of Blaine.
