281 <br />PROCLAMATION <br />VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA WEEK <br />March 3, 1991 through March 10, 1991 <br />WHEREAS: the Volunteers of America, a Christian social service <br />organization, is celebrating its 95th year of service <br />to the people of Minnesota and the nation; it is <br />therefore certainly appropriate for us to join in <br />the observance of this milestone with the commemoration <br />of March 8 - 10, 1991 as Volunteers of America Week; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS: the Volunteers of America is making a valuable <br />contribution to the people of Minnesota by providing <br />5 homes for mentally disabled, mentally ill, chemically <br />dependent and /or elderly adults; 43 congregate dining <br />sites for senior citizens in Anoka and Hennepin Counties; <br />home delivered meals for persons 60 years of age and <br />over; semi- independent living services and supported <br />living services programs for developmentally disabled <br />adults; programs serving autistic, autistic -like, and /or <br />developmentally disabled children and youth (In -Home/ <br />Out -Of -Home Respite Care, Special Foster Homes, Intensive <br />Treatment Center, Forestview Annex, Stevencroft <br />Apartment, & Stevencroft Home); program for boys with <br />severe behavioral problems; children's emergency shelter; <br />in -home services and 55 foster treatment homes and <br />correction group homes for emotionally /behaviorally <br />disturbed children who may have a delinquency history <br />(Family Treatment Services); a residential treatment <br />center for emotionally handicapped boys (Bar - None); <br />pre - release and work - release correctional programs <br />serving men (Residential Center); women's jail, work <br />house, and work release correctional facility (Regional <br />Corrections Center); support services for community <br />programs funded in part by a grant from ACTION. <br />WHEREAS: the Volunteers of America, through its compassionate, yet <br />practical crusade, is extending spiritual fellowship as <br />it provides relief where it is most urgently needed; and <br />WHEREAS: the Volunteers of America is commemorating its founding <br />in 1896 and urges others to uphold the American <br />philanthropic spirit through their commitment to help <br />those in need, <br />NOW, THERE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Harold L.
