She noted that
the interior is completed but expressed concern regarding
blacktopping the parking lot. Council Member Kuether noted that
she had heard one (1) report as to how the parking lot was to be
blacktopped and felt that this would be "tacky ". She noted that
it would look ridiculous from Lake Drive. Mayor Reinert said it
was his understanding that the Public Works Director and the
Chief of Police were to get together and come up with a proposal.
Mayor Reinert suggested that Council Member Kuether, Public Work
Liaison and Council Member Neal, Police Department Liaison get
together with the Public Works Director and the Chief of Police
and prepare a proposal and bring the proposal to the next Council
meeting. He noted that the City Council had set a limit of
$6,000.00 on completing certain items. Council Member Neal said
he thought that the cost of the entire remodeling of the police
facility was put in the 1992 budget. He was told only $35,000.00
was budgeted and the construction was to be completed in two (2)
phases.
Council Member Kuether asked how the City was able to purchase a
new park building when there was not enough money in the budget
to complete the police station remodeling. Mayor Reinert
explained that the funds for the park building were taken from
the Dedicated Parks Fund. This fund can only be used for park
land purchases or for park improvements.
PAGE 17
303
