STAFF ORIGINATOR: <br />MEETING DATE: <br />TOPIC: <br />VOTE REQUIRED: <br />BACKGROUND: <br />AGENDA ITEM 4C <br />Linda Waite Smith, City Administrator <br />March 26, 2001 <br />Donate $1,000 to Centennial A- Bantam Hockey Team <br />to Compete in National Championship Games in <br />Philadelphia <br />3/5 <br />On March 18, 2001, the Centennial A- Bantam Hockey team won the State Championship <br />in Willmar, MN. The team includes 17 eighth and ninth grade students, 14 of whom live <br />in Lino Lakes. The team is now eligible to compete in the National Championship games <br />in Philadelphia, PA the week of April 4 -8. The cost of travel and lodging for the team is <br />estimated to be $20,000. Parents and coaches are seeking donations to defray the costs. <br />Because this is the first time a Centennial hockey team has been eligible to compete in a <br />national championship and the time to raise travel funds is very limited, the City Council <br />indicated at its March 21, 2001, work session, a desire to donate $1,000 to the team. <br />OPTIONS: <br />1. Adopt Resolution 01 -51, donating $1,000 from the Mayor and Council's City <br />Marketing budget to the Centennial A -Bantam Hockey team to help defray <br />expenses related to competing in the National Finals in April 2001. <br />2. Decline to approve Resolution 01 -51. <br />3. Return to staff for further review and/or action. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Option #1: Adopt Resolution 01 -51 donating $1,000 from the Mayor and Council's City <br />Marketing budget to the Centennial A -Bantam Hockey team to help defray expenses <br />related to competing in the National Finals in April 2001. <br />• <br />
