1 <br />N <br />COUNCIL MEETING DECEMBER 20, 1993 <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />There was no Old Business. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Consideration of Approving a Gambling License Renewal for the VFW <br />Post #6583 Ladies Auxiliary - Gambling licenses must be renewed <br />bi-annually with the State of Minnesota. Although the Lino Lakes <br />Gambling Ordinance does not specifically address the license <br />period, the Ordinance does adopt State Statute Chapter 349 which <br />regulates the State license period. Therefore, the Lino Lakes <br />license period coincides with the State license period. <br />The gambling license for the VFW Post #6583 Ladies Auxiliary <br />expires on March 31, 1993. The Ladies Auxiliary has applied for <br />renewal of their license and if approved by the State and if the <br />City Council approves the renewal this evening, the renewal of <br />the license should be effective April 1, 1993. <br />Ms. Anderson explained that all of the necessary filings from <br />this organization are current. Also it has been determined that <br />this organization has complied with the Gambling Ordinance in <br />regard to contributing not less than 10% of their profits to <br />benefit the residents of Lino Lakes. Some of their donations <br />include: Fair Share, Community Food Shelf, Brownie Troop #34, <br />Centennial Fire District; Lino Lakes Senior Center, City of Lino <br />Lakes, Centennial Boys Soccer Club, Centennial Choir as well as a <br />number of other organizations and many individual families in <br />this community. <br />Council Member Neal moved to approve the renewal of the VFW Post <br />#6583 Ladies Auxiliary gambling license. Council Member Elliott <br />seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. <br />Mayor Reinert noted that many people in this community do things <br />for the community when there is a great need. He noted that <br />Council Member Neal has been busy distributing food and toys to <br />the needy for that past couple of weeks. Mayor Reinert extended <br />his personal thanks to Council Member Neal for his work. Council <br />Member Neal explained that he has the help of many people and <br />organizations such as the Circle Pines Police Department, the <br />Lino Lakes Police Department, the Lino Lakes Lions Club and two <br />(2) sheriff's deputies. He also explained that Anoka County had <br />about $1,000.00 in food and toys that he helped deliver to 33 <br />needy families in the community. Council Member Neal explained <br />that this is truly a community effort. Mayor:Reinert noted the <br />many groups in the twin cities that solicit toys and distribute <br />them, however these efforts usually do not'benefit areas such as <br />PAGE 3 <br />381 <br />
