STAFF ORIGINATOR: <br />MEETING DATE: <br />TOPIC: <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 3A <br />Jeff Karlson <br />November 24, 2014 <br />Appointment of Donald Jensen to Public Services — Park <br />Maintenance Position <br />The Council is being asked to approve the appointment of Donald Jensen for the vacant park <br />maintenance position in the Public Services Department. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Mr. Jensen has resided in Lino Lakes since 1989 and has worked for the Parks and Recreation <br />Department since 1999. He has performed a variety of tasks for the Parks Division including <br />mowing, athletic field preparation and maintenance, landscape maintenance, rink flooding and <br />clearing, and trail plowing. His employment with the Recreation Division has included softball <br />umpire, basketball official, scorekeeper, special events worker, skating instructor, and warming <br />house attendant. Mr. Jensen has demonstrated a great work ethic the past 15 years and we are <br />excited to have him be part of our maintenance staff on a full-time basis. <br />The Local 49 union contract stipulates that all time worked in a temporary or seasonal position <br />is applied for the purpose of pay progression and benefits. Therefore, Donald is credited with <br />six years of service with the City and will start at the base rate for a full time general <br />maintenance position, which is $25.34 per hour. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve the appointment of Donald Jensen, effective December 1, 2014. <br />
