COUNCIL MEETING JANUARY 23, 1995 <br />REGULAR AGENDA <br />OPEN MIKE <br />No one appeared under open mike. <br />CONSIDERATION OF DISBURSEMENTS: <br />January 23, 1995 - Council Member Neal moved to approve these <br />disbursements as presented. Council Member Elliott seconded the <br />motion. Motion carried unanimously. <br />Centennial Fire District, January 19, 1995 - Council Member <br />Elliott moved to approve these disbursements as presented. <br />Council Member Kuether seconded the motion. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />6:30 P.M. PUBLIC HEARING, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT <br />(CDBG) APPLICATIONS, RANDY SCHUMACHER <br />Mayor Reinert opened the public hearing at 6:35 P.M. Mr. <br />Schumacher explained that the City will receive $37,601.00 in <br />CDBG funds for 1995/1996. This money is to be used to benefit <br />low and moderate income residents. The purpose of the public <br />hearing is to receive comments and requests for the use of the <br />funds. Mr. Schumacher noted that a number of written requests <br />have been received including some new programs. The City Council <br />will take comments this evening, review the written material and <br />then make their decision at the February 13, 1995 regular Council <br />meeting. <br />Cathy Wiedmann, Coordinator of Senior Programs and Volunteers, <br />Anoka County Community Action Program, Inc. (Request, <br />$3,637.00) - Ms. Wiedmann thanked the City Council for their <br />support of the senior outreach worker in Lino Lakes and the <br />extension of residual funds last month. This indicates that the <br />City Council is committed to the welfare of vulnerable isolated <br />residents. The purpose of the Outreach Program is to link <br />seniors and older/disabled adults with services that help them <br />remain in their homes. The outreach worker becomes an advocate <br />or case worker that helps these residents access basic services <br />such as food and heat. <br />Ms. Wiedmann explained that the program is cost effective since <br />it allows seniors and disabled adults to remain in their homes <br />and not relocate to costly hospitals or nursing homes. In the <br />past the energy assistance funds were used to supplement the CDBG <br />funds, however, it appears that this funding is in jeopardy. Ms. <br />PAGE 2 <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />
