1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />COUNCIL MEETING MARCH 27, 1995 <br />Gambling License. <br />Mr. Miller noted that his organization meets all of the <br />requirements of the Lino Lakes Gambling Ordinance. There are <br />about 350 children represented by his organization and at least <br />50% of them live in Lino Lakes. Mr. Miller noted that the <br />average child pays about $450.00 for the opportunity to play <br />organized hockey and it is hoped that the gambling receipts would <br />off -set these costs. He explained that the Centennial Ice Arena <br />is shared with the Blaine Hockey Association and his organization <br />is trying to raise about $300,000.00 to buy the facility from <br />Blaine. <br />Mr. Miller explained that the Centennial Youth Hockey Association <br />has membership from adjoining cities and their organizations <br />donate money to other non-profit organizations and communities. <br />He felt that the money is being used wisely. <br />Mayor Reinert asked for a motion to table this matter until a <br />report is received from the Clerk -Treasurer. Council Member <br />Elliott moved to table the item. Council Member Kuether seconded <br />the motion. <br />Mr. Eric Westman from the Dead Broke Saddle Club said he <br />understood that his organization must meet one of the <br />qualification of the Lino Lakes Gambling Ordinance. He noted <br />that on the August 1, 1995, the date listed on the lease <br />agreement, the Saddle Club would meet the requirements. Mr. <br />Westman said that they would be happy to provide an affidavit <br />indicating that at least 15 members of their organization meet <br />the qualification. <br />Mr. Westman explained that the Saddle Club must submit their <br />application for a state gambling license 60 days prior to the <br />date they plan to begin operation of lawful gambling. He said he <br />was not aware of any of the problems mentioned about the 49 Club <br />and any promises that may have been made to the Youth Hockey <br />Association. However, his organization has a signed lease with <br />the 49 Club to commence operations on August 1, 1995. He asked <br />that due consideration be given to that fact. <br />Mayor Reinert call for a vote on the motion, motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />Consideration of Resolution No. 95 - 35 Correcting 1995 Special <br />Assessments - Mrs. Anderson explained that several errors have <br />been discovered in the 1995 assessment rolls. Since property tax <br />statements have already been calculated and mailed to the <br />property owners, the only remedy is to abate the wrong <br />PAGE 21 <br />
