COUNCIL MINUTES SEPTEMBER 22, 1997 <br />OLD BUSINESS None. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Consideration of Minutes, November 25, 1996 (Council Members Kuether and Lyden were <br />absent) - In light of the fact that Council Members Kuether and Bergeson are absent, Mayor <br />Landers called for a motion to table consideration of these minutes until a future meeting. <br />Council Member Lyden moved to table consideration of the November 25, 1996 minutes until <br />the next regular Council meeting. Council Member Neal seconded the motion. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />Consideration of Proclamation "DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH", read <br />by Mayor Landers - Mayor Landers read the following Proclamation: <br />DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH <br />WHEREAS, the community problem of domestic violence has become a critical <br />public health and welfare concern in Anoka County; and <br />WHEREAS, domestic violence is a crime, the commission of which will not be <br />tolerated in Anoka County and perpetrators of said crime are subject to <br />prosecution and conviction in accordance with the law; and <br />WHEREAS, over 43,000 victims of violence have and will continue to access <br />assistance from Alexandra House, a domestic violence service provider for <br />women and families; and <br />WHEREAS, it is estimated that up to 70% of the children and youth who come to <br />Alexandra House are themselves abused victims of domestic violence; and <br />WHEREAS, domestic violence will be eliminated through community <br />partnerships of concerned individuals and organizations working together to <br />prevent abuse while at the same time effecting social and legal change; and <br />WHEREAS, October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month; and. <br />WHEREAS, During National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Anoka <br />County media, churches and other organizations will inform area residents about <br />domestic violence, its prevalence, consequences and what we, as a concerned <br />community, can do to eliminate its existence. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND KNOWN TO ALL that the <br />Mayor, John L. Landers, proclaims October to be Domestic Violence Awareness <br />Month in Lino Lakes. <br />Mayor <br />Council Member Neal moved to approve the Proclamation, as presented. Council Member <br />Lyden seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. <br />11 <br />
