COUNCIL WORK SESSION JANUARY 8, 1997 <br />Staff explained that there is a large wetland in that area and crossing the wetland would <br />be very expensive. <br />Council directed staff to prepare an outline of the proposed assessments for this area and <br />send it to them in their Council packets for Monday's meeting. <br />DISCUSSION OF LEASE AGREEMENT FOR NEXTELL, INC./ SPRINT <br />COMMUNICATIONS, DAVID AHRENS <br />Many communities sell space on water towers to wireless businesses for the placement of <br />antennas. The City has hired a consultant to prepare a plan for the location of antennas on <br />City water towers and to recommend a fee for allowing use of the water towers. <br />Nextell and Sprint have both approached staff and requested antenna space on the current <br />water tower and the tower under construction. Representatives from bani <br />presented their requests to Council. The requests included a buil • <br />• e lo•� d at the <br />base of the water tower for storage of their equipment. The City <br />collects approxi A= 5 ual for sign permits. <br />Several su aons e offered that would address the concerns of local advertisers. <br />Staff will i • in the overall revision of the Sign Ordinance. <br />UPDATE, 1 GANIZED COLLECTION AND HAULER INFORMATION, <br />JACKIE CONSTANT <br />Ms. Constant updated the City Council on this matter. She has met with all of the refuse <br />haulers in Lino Lakes twice and has prepared a proposal for organized collection. Ms. <br />Constant outlined the proposal. <br />It was noted that a survey was taken and 54% of Lino Lakes residents favored organized <br />collection. It was also noted that currently haulers have little regard for safety issues <br />when they are in the City. The concern about the number of garbage trucks on City streets <br />and the wear these trucks cause was also noted. <br />Council Members Lyden and Kuether expressed interest in a consortium of haulers rather <br />than just one hauler.
