COUNCIL WORK SESSION JANUARY 22, 1997
The Economic Development Authority Advisory Board appointments were discussed.
The two (2) members whose terms have expired are seeking reappointment. Both persons
have been on the Board for less than one year. Staff suggested that it would be
inappropriate to dismiss them now.
Council directed Mr. Wessel to prepare a recommendation for term lengths for this Board
and make a recommendation for the two (2) terms that have expired.
Mr. Tesch noted that the North Central Suburban Cable Communications Commission is
requesting the appointment of a Council member to the Commission.
Mayor Landers suggested that Council appoint liaisons to all staff. Staff recommended
that Council Member Bergeson continue as the liaison to the Economic Development
Authority Advisory Board.
Discussion regarding the method of selecting candidates for all C
commissions followed. Council Member Bergeson suggeste
written basic information about themselves.
Mr. Tesch will prepare a draft recommendation. s o• f b'o • and committee
members and bring it to the next work sessi
CHARLES PROKOP, DEER P
Mr. Prokop previously ap they ' cil and asked the Council to consider
providing his area of t r fre ite Bear Press newspapers. He explained that
since children in tt the White Bear area schools and residents shop in the
White Bear area, ='deny<s more with White Bear rather than Lino Lakes. Mr.
Prokop fel inc e Quad Press is delivered free to residents in Lino Lakes, the
Council sh ee White Bear Press newspapers to his area.
Council Me r Lyden explained that he had discussed this concern with Press
Publications. He was told that they had looked at this issue and had made a business
decision to continue the format now used for the distribution of the Quad Press. Also,
they were not willing to make any changes in the distribution of the White Bear Press.
This matter was discussed further. It was noted that if the Council provided free White
Bear Press newspapers to Mr. Prokop's area instead of the Quad Press, this area would
not be aware of the legal notices that are printed in the Quad Press. Staff added that the
City already has an identity problem and dividing newspaper coverage would add to that
problem.
After further discussion it was determined to research the possibility of Mr. Prokop's area
receiving both the Quad Press and the White Bear Press. Either Mr. Tesch or Mr.
Schumacher will talk with Mr. Prokop about this matter.
PAGE 6
•
•
•
