COUNCIL MINUTES MAY 26, 1998 <br />Mayor Sullivan asked if the two (2) warrants, being the high accident rate and school crossing, <br />was sufficient to warrant installation of the flashing beacon system. Mr. Ahrens indicated the <br />two (2) warrants were sufficient. <br />Council Member Bergeson moved to adopt Resolution No. 98 - 71, as presented. Council <br />Member Lyden seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. <br />Resolution No. 98 - 71 can be found at the end of these minutes. <br />CONSIDERATION OF HIRING RECEPTIONIST, DAN TESCH <br />Mr. Tesch stated the City has filled the position of Engineering/Building Department Secretary, <br />as approved in the 1998 Budget. The position was filled by way of internal promotion of <br />receptionist, Carri Villella. The City is now in the process of filling the upcoming vacant <br />receptionist position at the front desk, with final interviews held earlier today, May 26, 1998. <br />Mr. Tesch asked the Council to approve a conditional offer of employment to Ms. Dawn Bugge. <br />The offer will be contingent upon a positive reference and background check. <br />Council Member Neal asked if the Police Department will be involved in the background check. <br />Mr. Tesch indicated that the Police Department will be involved. <br />Mayor Sullivan noted the importance of customer service relating to this position. <br />Council Member Lyden moved to approve a conditional offer of employment to Ms. Dawn <br />Bugge, contingent on a positive reference and background check. Council Member Neal <br />seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Grievance Settlement, Dan Tesch - Mr. Tesch stated that in March, 1998, an arbitrator was <br />unable to make a determination as to a cash award regarding the aforementioned grievance, BMS <br />Case No. 98 -PA -507. Staff and the grievant have therefore arrived at the following negotiated <br />settlement: <br />1. Cash payment of $6,686.00 <br />2. Assignment of utility responsibilities to the Public Works Director/City Engineer <br />Mr. Tesch asked the Council to approve to the above negotiated settlement. <br />Mayor Sullivan stated that it is very important to have clearly stated job descriptions regarding <br />City positions. Mr. Tesch indicated that a notice of new job responsibilities and descriptions will <br />be distributed on Wednesday, May 27, 1998. <br />16 <br />
