COUNCIL MINUTES OCTOBER 26, 1998 <br />• AFSCME membership. The order has now been lifted, and the Council may proceed with the <br />approval of salaries for the two (2) positions. <br />• <br />S <br />The recommendations for the Building Official/Inspector and Environmental Specialist salary <br />ranges were made in consultation with Labor Relations Associates. Both employees will be at <br />Step 6. <br />Staff recommended approval of stated salaries. <br />Council Member Bergeson moved to approve salary recommendations for the Building <br />Official/Inspector and Environmental Specialist. Council Member Lyden seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried unanimously. <br />Consideration of City Planner, Dan Tesch - Mr. Tesch stated the City is ready to make a <br />tentative offer of employment to Mr. Jeff Smyser for the position of City Planner. This offer is <br />contingent upon reference and background checks. <br />Mr. Smyser is currently the Assistant Zoning Administrator for McLeod County, and has both <br />public and private sector planning experience. Mr. Tesch stated the anticipated start date is <br />November 16, 1998. <br />Staff recommended approval of a tentative offer of employment to Mr. Smyser. <br />Mr. Wessel gave a brief description of Mr. Smyser's background. He stated Mr. Smyser is a <br />graduate of the University of Minnesota has his Masters Degree. He also has 10 years of <br />experience. Mr. Smyser was with a planning firm for four (4) years. Mr. Wessel indicated Mr. <br />Smyser is committed to public service. <br />Council Member Bergeson moved to approve a tentative offer of employment to Mr. Jeff Smyser <br />for the position of City Planner. Council Member Neal seconded the motion. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />OLD BUSINESS - None <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Consideration of Minutes, October 7, 1998 (Council Member Bergeson was absent) - <br />Council Member Lyden moved to approve the October 7, 1998, minutes, as presented. Council <br />Member Neal seconded the motion.
