The challenge to Public Works will be to continue to provide a high level of <br />service in a cost-effective manner as we add new city -owned buildings which they <br />maintain, and additional infrastructure, sewer, water, roads, etc. <br />COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: Director, Brian Wessel <br />Economic Development, Planning, Environment <br />There's great news on the Economic Development front. In 1998, Lino Lakes <br />welcomed Rice Industries as a new industrial business. In the industrial area, we <br />also saw expansion of the Lino Lakes Business Center - an `incubator' - a business <br />which provides leased space to other developing businesses. This also brought <br />several new and expanding businesses into the fold. Also growing last year were <br />Nol-tech and Moline Concrete. <br />Commercial development successes were the Clearwater Creek Convenience <br />Center, the Lakeland National Bank, and the Lino Lakes State Bank. These were <br />the businesses that contributed to the $23 million increase in tax base in the last 5 <br />years. <br />Town Center development has given the city a fantastic opportunity to work with <br />two nationally known experts in the fields of Preservation Development and <br />Traditional Neighborhood Design. In a city where the environment and <br />commercial development were identified as the top concerns, we've got the best <br />known folks to help us build those qualities into our town center.
