In addition to their day to day efforts, the Planning department is hard at work <br />preparing for the return of comments regarding the Comprehensive Plan. By the <br />end of April, we will have the initial review which notifies us that we've sent all <br />the required pieces of the plan. By the end of June, we will have Met Council's <br />comments and recommendations about our plan. <br />A new process is being developed for review of Preservation Development <br />projects. A new direction for this city is basing development on the ecological <br />factors of a property - and ensuring PERMANENT PRESERVATION AT A <br />COST THAT IS NOT BORNE BY THE TAXPAYERS. Open space is desirable <br />but it is not free. We are developing a process that will ensure our review of <br />these processes considering ECOLOGY - CULTURE AND ECONOMIC factors <br />- the key elements of our new planning strategy. <br />Planning is also busy revising ordinances that will help us begin the process of <br />implementing our new growth policies prior to the implementation of the new <br />comprehensive plan. Without these changes, the city has no legal way to slow the <br />pressures of development. <br />The future for Planning is to develop ordinances which align with an approved <br />Comprehensive Plan. <br />The Environmental department has had a year of successes beginning with the <br />official establishment of our environmental advisory board.
